Maximize HVAC Efficiency

When it comes to your Heating and Air Conditioning unit, you likely want to maximize the lifespan and HVAC efficiency. As a homeowner, there are a few things you can do yourself that take just a couple of minutes.

Replace filters every 90 days

Replacing your filters frequently helps keep the air in your home cleaner and helps maximize your HVAC efficiency. The filters are usually located either behind a return grill or at the indoor unit. Most common sizes can be bought at a big box store, but some of our customers choose to buy them on Amazon to receive a bulk discount. Replacing filters every 90 days is a good rule of thumb, but you may want to increase the frequency depending on your usage.

Keep your thermostat set to a consistent temperature

Using schedules that allow the house to heat up significantly during the heat of the day and then try to drop the temperature in the evening can actually make it harder for your system to keep up and put excessive strain on the components of your HVAC system. Systems are designed to maintain temperature, not significantly drop it.

In the air conditioning season, this is accomplished by your compressor pumping refrigerant through your coils that remove heat from your home as it comes in. A good plan for maximizing HVAC efficiency is to figure out what temperature you want it at when you get home from work, and always keep the set point within 2 degrees of that throughout the day. Of course, if you have other preferences, such as having the house cooler while you sleep, you’ll want to factor those in too.

Have professional maintenances performed regularly

Having your Heating and Air Conditioning system maintenanced regularly will not only maximize your HVAC efficiency, it will also help to prevent and detect problems in your system that can help reduce the cost of the bigger repairs.
